GRADUATION AND COMMENCEMENT FAQS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEUMONT COMMENCEMENT AND GRADUATION?

Commencement is an annual campus-wide ceremony for all graduating seniors from all degrees and programs and their families. Graduates and future graduates walk across the stage to receive a faux-diploma. Graduation is the act of completing all graduation requirements, including completing graduation exit meetings and meeting academic and financial requirements. Graduation occurs at the end of each term (quarter).

DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR GRADUATION?

No. Graduating seniors must complete the graduation exit requirements during their last quarter.

IS THERE A REHEARSAL FOR THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY?

Yes. Seniors who indicate that they will be participating in Commencement will receive full instructions regarding the Commencement rehearsal from the Office of the Registrar. It is imperative that participants arrive at the venue at the designated time. Family members and guests will not be allowed to attend the rehearsal.

WHEN AND WHERE IS COMMENCEMENT?

The annual Commencement ceremony is held at the end of the Summer Quarter. The Commencement location will be published in the spring. Please check the Neumont Commencement website for more details.

I WILL GRADUATE IN THE WINTER QUARTER. CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT THIS YEAR?

Yes. Students graduating any time in the current academic year can participate in Commencement by completing the Commencement Participation Form.

HOW LONG DOES THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY LAST?

Commencement usually lasts 1-2 hours. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

HOW DO I GET MY NAME LISTED IN THE PROGRAM?

Graduating students can indicate how their name will be printed on the Graduation Exit Form All graduating seniors will be listed in the program whether or not they participate in the ceremony.

HOW ARE GRADUATION HONORS DETERMINED?

Please refer to the current Neumont Course Catalog for academic honors at graduation

WILL ACADEMIC HONORS AT GRADUATION BE LISTED ON THE DIPLOMAS?

Students completing their degree requirements in August will have their tentative graduation honors, based on the last cumulative grade point average published at the time of the ceremony. Final honors, determined after all final grades have been included, are posted on the final official transcripts and diplomas.

WHEN AND WHERE DO I PICK UP CAP AND GOWN? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Information on when and where to pick up your cap and gown will be communicated by the Office of the Registrar in advance of the event. Graduating seniors are charged a graduation fee that covers the cost of their cap and gown. Graduating seniors must wear their assigned cap and gown at the Commencement ceremony.

No ticket is required to attend Commencement. Graduates may invite close friends and family to attend.

No.

HOW MANY GUESTS MAY I BRING?

There is no limit on the number of guests that you may bring to the ceremony. All seating is first come, first served.

WILL I RECEIVE MY DIPLOMA AT THE CEREMONY?

No. Attending Commencement does not mean that you have met the institution’s graduation requirements. Students may participate in the ceremony even they have not finished their degree requirements until a later quarter (Fall). The diploma is mailed to the graduates several weeks after confirmation of all the student’s responsibilities for graduation as instructed in the Neumont Course Catalog.

ARE DEGREES AND HONORS INDICATED ON THE DIPLOMA?

Your diploma will include your name, date of graduation, degree earned, and graduation honors (e.g. summa cum laude) as appropriate.

I WANT TO ORDER A DIPLOMA FRAME. WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DIPLOMA?

The diplomas are standard letter size (8 ½ X 11). Diplomas are not the official records of your graduation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRANSCRIPT AND A DIPLOMA?

Please note that graduates will no longer have access to the Degree website. Your diploma will be mailed to you within 60 days of your graduation date. It will be mailed to the address that you entered on your Student Exit Form. The official transcript is the official record for proof of graduation. Neumont has partnered with the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to process transcripts and degree verification requests. The fee for transcripts depends on the format (digital or mail delivery) requested. To order a transcript, visit the NSC website at http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/ and click on the “Order-Track-Verify” tab and follow the directions. You will be able to pay for your transcripts directly on this website. All transcript orders are processed within 48 business hours. If you would like to have a transcript mailed, please allow up to seven business days for delivery. Neumont does not provide unofficial transcripts.

HOW DO I PROVIDE PROOF OF GRADUATION TO POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS?

Employers can use the National Student Clearinghouse http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/ for graduation verification. We do not provide verification over phone, fax, or email. You can request an official transcript to be sent to a graduate school or any other parties.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I OWE MONEY? CAN I STILL GRADUATE?

Though the degree is conferred, the policy dictates that any student with an unpaid balance will not be issued a diploma or official transcript until the account is settled. All outstanding balances must be paid before Commencement.

I HAVE MOVED AND WOULD LIKE MY DIPLOMA MAILED TO ME. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

You can contact the Office of the Registrar to update your contact information or go to the Neumont Student Portal to update your address. Additional or replacement diplomas can be ordered by completing the Diploma Request Form on the Neumont website .
